During this ceremony, 107 local and international lay and monastic undergraduate candidates were awarded their Bachelor of Arts degrees for their successful completion of studies in the Faculty of Buddhist Studies during the previous academic years. Additionally, 92 local and international lay and monastic candidates received postgraduate degrees, including Master of Arts, Master of Philosophy, and Doctoral degrees from the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

The keynote address was delivered by Senior Professor Patmalal M. Manage, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

The event was well-attended, with notable guests including Ven. Dr. Dampe Vijithrathana Thero, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies, as well as Directors Ven. Pasgoda Sumiththa Thero and Ven. Sooriyawewa Sumedha Thero. Other attendees included members of the Mahasanga, Mrs. Chandima Janaki, the Additional Secretary for the Non-State Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, the Deans of the institute—Emeritus Professor Asanga Thilakaratne, Professor P.B. Mandawala, and Dr. Sajeewa Pemasinghe—the Directors, the Registrar, the Bursar, members of the academic and non-academic staff, the graduates’ parents and well-wishers, as well as nearly a thousand attendees overall.

Maitreya Buddha Vihara Inaugurated in Undrajavaram, Andhra Pradesh, India.

On 29 July 2026, under our patronage, a newly constructed Buddhist temple, Maitreya Buddha Vihara, was ceremonially inaugurated and dedicated to the Buddha Sāsana in Undrajavaram, Andhra Pradesh, India.

This historic occasion marked a significant milestone for the local community. Thousands of people embraced the Buddha Dhamma by becoming lay followers (Upāsakas and Upāsikās). The establishment of this temple fulfills a long-standing need for a Buddhist place of worship in the area.

Constructed in the architectural style of Mahabodhi Temple, Bodh Gaya, the vihara stands as a symbol of faith, peace, and spiritual inspiration. We sincerely commend Bhante Analayo, the President, and the dedicated members of the temple committee for their remarkable vision, commitment, and generosity in bringing this noble project to fruition for the benefit of the people.

The inauguration of this temple is expected to play a vital role in meeting the spiritual needs of the local community and in promoting the teachings of the Buddha in the region.

The ceremony was attended by a large gathering, including ministers, government officials, artists, religious leaders, and devotees from across the region.

May this noble offering continue to bring peace, wisdom, and blessings to all beings.

එහිදී, ඉන්දියානු අග්‍රාමාත්‍ය ගරු නරේන්ද්‍ර මෝදි මැතිතුමා වෙත මෙම සමරු උලෙළ සඳහා සහභාගී වන ලෙස ආරාධනා කරමින් විශේෂ ආරාධනා පත්‍රයක් ද ඉන්දියානු මහ කොමසාරිස්තුමන් වෙත පිළිගන්වන ලදී.

The 60th Anniversary Commemoration of the World Buddhist Sangha Council, centred at the Nāgānanda International Buddhist University, will commence on 28 November under the patronage of His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and will continue until 2 December.

The conference is expected to bring together nearly 600 participants, including Bhikkhus, Bhikkhunīs, and lay representatives from more than 50 countries, representing the Theravāda, Mahāyāna, and Vajrayāna Buddhist traditions. Representing Sri Lanka, nearly 5,000 members of the Maha Sangha, including the Mahanayaka Theras of the Three Nikāyas, are also expected to participate.

Among those present at the meeting were the Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 60th Anniversary of the World Buddhist Sangha Council, Most Venerable Dr. Bodagama Chandima Thera the Secretary General, Most Venerable Maitipe Wimalasara Thera; and Organizing Committee members Most Venerable Talagala Sumanaratana Thera, Most Venerable Ittademaliyaye Indasara Thera, Most Venerable Welamitiyawa Gnanaratana Nayaka Thera, Venerable Dr. Walmoruwe Piyarathana Thera, Venerable Pasgoda Sumiththa Thera, and Venerable Sooriyawewa Sumedha Thera, together with other members of the Maha Sangha.

Also in attendance were Roshan Gamage, Senior Additional Secretary to the President; P. A. A. S. Weerasekara, Additional District Secretary of Gampaha; H. N. Kumari, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs; heads of state and private institutions; senior officials of the security forces; and several other distinguished invitees.

Sri Lanka is preparing to host the 60th Anniversary of the World Buddhist Sangha Council (WBSC) with this historic international event centered at the Nagananda International Institute for Buddhist Studies, Manelwatta.

A special meeting of the Organizing Committee was held in 25 June 2026 under the leadership of Ven. Dr. Bodagama Chandima Thero, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, together with Ven. Dr. Maitipe Wimalasara Thero, Secretary of the Organizing Committee, and Ven. Ittademaliya Indasara Thero, Ven. Rambukewela Gnanaseeha Thero, Ven. Thalagala Sumanarathana Thero, and Ven. Athapaththukande Ananda Thero.

The committee discussed preparations for the 60th Anniversary of the World Buddhist Sangha Council, the 2nd Executive Committee Meeting of the 11th General Conference, and the Official Opening Ceremony of the Nagananda International Institute for Buddhist Studies.

This landmark occasion is expected to strengthen international Buddhist cooperation while showcasing Sri Lanka’s enduring role as a global center of Buddhist heritage, education, and spiritual leadership.

මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් වන මූලික සංවිධාන කටයුතු පිළිබඳ විශේෂ සාකච්ඡාවක් ජුනි මස 15 වන දින බුද්ධශාසන, ආගමික හා සංස්කෘතික කටයුතු අමාත්‍යාංශ පරිශ්‍රයේදී පැවැත්විණි.

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, graced by the presence of the Maha Sangha, including Ven. Dr. Maitipe Wimalasara Thera, Secretary General of the World Buddhist Sangha Council, and Ven. Sooriyawewa Sumedha Thera, Director of the Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies, together with the Minister and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, regarding the preliminary arrangements for the 60th Anniversary Celebration and the 11th Executive Committee Meeting of the World Buddhist Sangha Council.

The event is scheduled to be held from 28 November 2026 to 2 December 2026 at the Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies, the premises of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, and Kandy.

The Minister stated that hosting the World Buddhist Sangha Council in Sri Lanka is a highly honourable and historic occasion. He further emphasized that this noble and meritorious event, which will showcase Sri Lanka’s rich Buddhist heritage and diplomatic relations to the world, will receive the government’s fullest and continuous support. He also stated that, with the blessings of Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the support of the Presidential Secretariat, every effort will be made to ensure the success of this significant international event.

I had the opportunity to deliver one of the lectures for this program yesterday. The event was attended by the university deans, including Professor Ven. Walmoruwe Piyarathana Thero, along with other members of the academic staff.

A distinctive feature of this program is that all monks who successfully complete the training are granted diplomatic passports by the Government of Thailand, enabling them to engage in international missionary work.

Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is currently in effect between the Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (NIIBS) and Chulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. This MoU fosters academic cooperation and collaboration between the two institutions.

තායිලන්තයේ ප්‍රමුඛ පෙලේ ඉපැරණි රාජ්‍ය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයක් වන චූලාලොන්කෝර් රාජ් විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය වසර 10ක් පුරා ධර්ම දූත ප්‍රචාරයට අවශ්‍ය භික්ෂූන් වහන්සේලා පුහුණු කරන පාඨමාලාවක් ක්‍රියාත්මක කෙරේ. එහි එක් කණ්ඩායමක් වසර 10ක පුහුණුව අවසන්ව සහතිකපත් ප්‍රදානය අද දින පැවැත්වේ.

එහි එක් දේශනයක් ඊයේ දින මවිසින් පවත්වන ලද අතර මෙම වැඩසටහන සදහා එම විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ පීඨාධිපතිවරු සහ මහාචාර්ය වල්මෝරුවේ පියරතන හිමියන් ප්‍රමුඛ අධ්‍යයන කාර්ය මණ්ඩලය සහභාගී විය.

මෙහි විශේෂත්වය සහතිකපත්ලාභී සියලු භික්ෂූන් වහන්සේලාට රාජ්‍යතාන්ත්‍රික විදෙස්ගමන් බලපත්‍රයක් එරට රජය විසින් ලබාදීමයි.

අප නාගානන්ද ජාත්‍යන්තර බෞද්ධ විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය හා තායිලන්තයේ චූලාලොන්කොර්රාජ්‍ය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය අතර අධ්‍යයන කටයුතු සම්බන්ධයෙන් අවබෝධතා ගිවිසුමක් ද ක්‍රියාත්මක කෙරේ.

We celebrated the Vesak Festival, commemorating the Triple Blessed Events of the Buddha at the Taipei Theravāda Samādhi Educational Institute. Devotees and members of the Maha Sangha participated in the celebration, which was conducted in a manner that reflected and preserved the cultural identity of this country.

2026 වෛශාඛ්‍ය මංගල්‍යය සැමරීම වෙනුවෙන් අප විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ආයතනය චීන බෞද්ධ ශිෂ්‍ය එකමුතුවේ සහයෝගය ඇතිව සංවිධානය කරන ලද වෙසක් මංගල්‍යය වැඩසටහනේ එක් අංගයක් වූ මහා බත් දන්සල උපකුලපති ආචාර්ය බෝදාගම චන්දිම නාහිමියන්ගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් පැවැත්විය. මේ සදහා 3500කට අධික ජනතාවක් සහභාගි විය.
