A progress review meeting on the organizational arrangements for the 60th Anniversary Commemoration of the World Buddhist Sangha Council (WBSC) and the Official Opening of the Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies was held yesterday morning (15) at the Presidential Secretariat under the chairmanship of Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President.
The 60th Anniversary Commemoration of the World Buddhist Sangha Council, centred at the Nāgānanda International Buddhist University, will commence on 28 November under the patronage of His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and will continue until 2 December.
The conference is expected to bring together nearly 600 participants, including Bhikkhus, Bhikkhunīs, and lay representatives from more than 50 countries, representing the Theravāda, Mahāyāna, and Vajrayāna Buddhist traditions. Representing Sri Lanka, nearly 5,000 members of the Maha Sangha, including the Mahanayaka Theras of the Three Nikāyas, are also expected to participate.
Among those present at the meeting were the Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 60th Anniversary of the World Buddhist Sangha Council, Most Venerable Dr. Bodagama Chandima Thera the Secretary General, Most Venerable Maitipe Wimalasara Thera; and Organizing Committee members Most Venerable Talagala Sumanaratana Thera, Most Venerable Ittademaliyaye Indasara Thera, Most Venerable Welamitiyawa Gnanaratana Nayaka Thera, Venerable Dr. Walmoruwe Piyarathana Thera, Venerable Pasgoda Sumiththa Thera, and Venerable Sooriyawewa Sumedha Thera, together with other members of the Maha Sangha.
Also in attendance were Roshan Gamage, Senior Additional Secretary to the President; P. A. A. S. Weerasekara, Additional District Secretary of Gampaha; H. N. Kumari, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs; heads of state and private institutions; senior officials of the security forces; and several other distinguished invitees.

ලෝක බෞද්ධ සංඝ සම්මේලනයේ (World Buddhist Sangha Council – WBSC) 60 වන සංවත්සර සමරු උලෙළ පැවැත්වීම හා අප නාගානන්ද ජාත්යන්තර බෞද්ධ අධ්යයන ආයතනයේ නිල විවෘත කිරීම සම්බන්ධ සංවිධාන කටයුතුවල ප්රගතිය විමසා බැලීමේ සාකච්ඡාවක් ජනාධිපති ලේකම් ආචාර්ය නන්දික සනත් කුමානායක මහතාගේ ප්රධානත්වයෙන් ජනාධිපති කාර්යාලයේදී ඊයේ (15) පෙරවරුවේ පැවැත්විණ.
අප නාගානන්ද ජාත්යන්තර බෞද්ධ විශ්වවිද්යාලය කේන්ද්ර කරගෙන පැවැත්වෙන ලෝක බෞද්ධ සංඝ සම්මේලනයේ 60 වැනි සංවත්සර සැමරුම නොවැම්බර් 28 වන දින ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතාගේ ප්රධානත්වයෙන් ආරම්භ වන අතර, එය දෙසැම්බර් 02 වැනිදා දක්වා පැවැත්වේ.
මෙම සම්මේලනයට ථේරවාද, මහායාන සහ වජ්රයාන සම්ප්රදායන් නියෝජනය කරමින් රටවල් 50කට අධික සංඛ්යාවක භික්ෂු-භික්ෂුණීන් වහන්සේලා සහ ගිහි නියෝජිතයෝ 600කට ආසන්න පිරිසක් ද, ශ්රී ලංකාව නියෝජනය කරමින් ත්රෛනිකායික මහනායක හිමිවරු ඇතුළු මහා සංඝරත්නය 5000කට ආසන්න පිරිසක් ද සහභාගී වීමට නියමිතය.
ලෝක බෞද්ධ සංඝ සම්මේලන සංවත්සර සංවිධායක කමිටුවේ සභාපති ආචාර්ය සාහිත්යසූරී අතිපූජ්ය බෝදාගම චන්දිම හිමි, එහි ප්රධාන ලේකම් අතිපූජ්ය මාඉටිපේ විමලසාර හිමි, ප්රධාන කමිටුවේ සාමාජිකයන් වන අතිපූජ්ය තලගල සුමනරතන හිමි, අතිපූජ්ය ඉත්තෑදෙමළියේ ඉන්දසාර හිමි, අතිපූජ්ය වැලමිටියාවේ ගුණරතන නායක හිමි, ආචාර්ය පූජ්ය වල්මෝරුවේ පියරතන හිමි, පූජ්ය පස්ගොඩ සුමිත්ත හිමි, පූජ්ය සූරියවැව සුමේධ හිමි, ඇතුළු මහා සංඝරත්නයද, ජනාධිපති ජ්යෙෂ්ඨ අතිරේක ලේකම් රෝෂන් ගමගේ, ගම්පහ අතිරේක දිස්ත්රික් ලේකම් පී. ඒ. ඒ. එස්. වීරසේකර, බුද්ධශාසන, ආගමික හා සංස්කෘතික කටයුතු අමාත්යාංශයේ අතිරේක ලේකම් එච්. එන්. කුමාරි යන මහත්ම මහත්මීහු, රාජ්ය සහ පෞද්ගලික ආයතනවල ප්රධානීහු, ආරක්ෂක අංශවල ජ්යෙෂ්ඨ නිලධාරීහු ඇතුළු පිරිසක් මෙම අවස්ථාවට එක්ව සිටියහ.
